Katie studied art at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design, following which she moved to London but still maintained her love of horses and riding by spending her spare time as a point to point jockey in the West Country.
Her passion for art however, made her realise that her true vocation was painting and she returned to study Fine Art at Plymouth University gaining an Honours degree in 2000. It was at Plymouth that she studied under John Virtue an artist well known for his skills in monochrome landscapes, a style, which in the world of equestrian art she has made her own.
Katie's style is based on a blend of strong and accurate drawing technique and expressionist feel for movement. She works from life drawings as well as photographs interpreting both in her own style. In her paintings, she strives to put the viewer in the composition as though they were there at that particular moment in time. As an expert horse rider, she has an intimate knowledge of the anatomy of the horse as well as a natural affinity for them, which shows strongly in her output.
In 2016, Katie was chosen by The Countryside Alliance to produce a painting for their Christmas card, which has led to a number of significant commissions and exhibitions of her work in the UK and New York.
Equestrian Art International has been following Katie's progress for a number of years now and we are pleased to announce that Katie has agreed to join our select band of equestrian stars for the start of the 2017 season. Her work will be shown for the first time at this year's Cheltenham Festival.
